Doddie Weir

The Club was saddened by the news that Scottish Rugby legend, Doddie Weir has passed away after a long battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Doddie won 61 caps for his country during his playing career. Diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2016, he courageously set about raising awareness of the disease and set up his My Name’5 Doddie foundation to help fund research into finding a cure for MND and support people diagnosed with the disease. Doddie was awarded the OBE in 2019 for services to Rugby , MND research and the community in the Scottish Borders and worked tirelessly for these causes despite his illness.

Off the pitch, Doddie farmed at the family farm near Blainslie in the Borders and was the proud owner of a vintage Ford Dexta which members of the Club had helped to restore.

The Club members would like to pass on our condolences to Doddie’s family at this sad time.
